Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between GB and GiB?
GB (gigabyte) is 1,000³ bytes – used by drive makers. GiB (gibibyte) is 1,024³ = 1,073,741,824 bytes – what Windows reports as "GB". That's why a 1 TB drive shows about 931 GB.
How accurate are the conversions?
We use the exact international definitions (e.g. 1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg) and show 6 significant digits. Exact whole numbers are shown in full.
Why are US and imperial gallons different?
A US gallon is 3.785 litres; an imperial (UK) gallon is 4.546 litres. Recipes and fuel economy figures differ between countries for this reason.
