Will converting JPG to WebP reduce quality?
Both are lossy, so re-encoding can add a little loss. At 85–90% quality it is not visible, while the file usually shrinks by a quarter to a third.
Why does Google PageSpeed recommend WebP?
"Serve images in next-gen formats" flags JPG and PNG because WebP and AVIF deliver the same picture in fewer bytes, which lowers Largest Contentful Paint.
Is EXIF data (camera, GPS) kept?
No. Converting through the browser canvas strips metadata, which also removes location data before you publish photos.
